We are pleased to announce the latest software update to Soutron is now available, version 4.2
This update includes many enhancements, new features as well as security updates and general improvements.
The latest updates and enhancements are the result of working closely with and listening to, clients’ needs. As a result, we continue to provide a world class combined library, archive, knowledge and information management solution.

Re-designed Self-issue (For Users)
We are pleased to introduce a re-design of the Self-issue screen. Including:
- Portal Style Configuration
- Clean modern interface

Migration of additional Catalogue editing functions (New Admin)
This release sees the retirement of the legacy catalogue edit page, resulting in creation of all new records, editing existing ones is all done in the new Admin interface. We have streamlined the workflow to make the processing between legacy and new admin more seamless and automatic. As part of this the following functions can now be found in the new admin screens:
- Security categories
- Convert to volume
- Create child record
- Create part
- Request management
Tracking portal clicks of URL’s stored in records
It is now possible to track the visitor clicks of URL’s stored in catalogue records within Soutron. This provides you a further insight into the use and visitor behaviour of what users are clicking on within the Search Portal catalogue and varied collections you store.
Redirector proxy (such as OpenAthens redirector links)
If you already use OpenAthens authentication for your electronic resources you can now leverage the OA redirector link settings to allow your users to get to the resources they need easier than before.
“The OpenAthens Redirector is a tool that allows you to pop the URL of a page in a resource (such as an article) on the end of a consistent prefix. When this new link is followed, the redirector works out the best way to get the user there – no need to maintain separate links for on-site and off-site access or work with complicated ‘WAYFless URLs’ (the redirector uses them so that you don’t have to).”

Generating a PDF from stored record link
This optional paid add-on allows you to enter URL’s into your records and have Soutron automatically generate a PDF of those webpages. This feature can be used to capture a snapshot of a page to capture an article or make a snapshot of a page for archival purposes, there are different levels of subscription for this service i.e. basic that includes for example Adverts on the page and a pro version which will remove adverts thus generating a cleaner PDFA great new feature for both Archive and Library clients. Automated Journal check-in via Mailbox monitoring
This optional paid add-on provides automated check-in of journal issues if your journal supplier provides you with electronic issues via email. This feature allows Soutron to monitor a Soutron provided mailbox for new issues and automatically check-in and distribute those issues to your users, complete with email notifications.

Thesaurus term management direct from Admin cat edit
It is now possible to directly manage thesaurus terms while you are still in the catalogue record, just like you could in our legacy cataloguing screens.
New Image Zoom feature for Search Portal
Have lots of images which contain interesting detail, you can now enable the new Soutron zoom feature, which when viewing a full record, allows you to zoom in and out of the image, allowing users to focus in on that all important detail. Note, this feature is best used with higher quality images. A great new feature for our archival clients as well as photographic libraries.
Other updates include:
- Audit history feature, allowing you to see when and who has created/edited catalogue records.
– This data has always been tracked, so if you have been a long standing client, this will show you a complete audit date history. - Improvements to Collections, allowing improved management
- General security improvements and much more
